Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balms-The Pinks

02 February 2014

I'm sure I wasn't the only one out there super excited to get their hands on the Revlon Colorburst Balms! I was really interested in trying out the Lacquers more than the Matte shades, as I just prefer a shinier finish. I'm going to be doing two posts on these, as I went a little bit crazy and bought 6 different shades in one week.

So, today I will be talking about the pinks! Obviously I don't have all of the pinks here, and one of the pinks that I really wanted to get (Demure) was sold out in my local Boots when I went to pick these up.

Pretty pretty! The packaging is actually quite difficult to photograph nicely, as the outer casing is so shiny. Below I've got some swatches both on the lip and just on my arm, I think in the arm shots you can get more of idea of the glitter levels in these balms. Coquette and Whimsical have glitter in which doesn't show up an awful lot on the lip, but I've been wearing Coquette today and managed to spot a stray bit of glitter that had migrated onto my face.

First up is Flirtatious. I think this is my favourite out of the pinks that I have. It's vibrant but not too offensive, and I just really like the raspberry pink colour it's got going on!

Below is Whimsical. This was a shade that I wasn't originally going to pick up, as I wanted Demure instead. It's sort of got some pinky-blue undertones going on, and obviously a slight glittery shimmer to it. Not my favourite, but still a very wearable colour.

Finally we have Coquette. This has probably been my least favourite of all the colours I own. It's a very candy pink, and mixed with the glitter as well I feel it looks a bit childish. It also doesn't seem to last as long on my lips as the other colours.

Taste and scent wise, these are very slightly minty. I was a bit concerned about this at first as I really don't like tingly lip balms/glosses, and mint isn't one of my favourite flavours at all, but it's barely noticeable. I find it to be more noticeable with a slight tingle when reapplying, but it's still hardly there.

Overall, I do really like the shades that I picked out to try, but the claims of these being balm-like are a little bit over-exaggerated. At this time of year, my lips are very prone to cracking and getting dry, but these balms are meant to have Shea, Mango and Coconut Butter in, so they shouldn't be leaving my lips dry. On the lips, the texture is very comfortable to wear, and is quite balm-like. However, after eating or drinking, or when it needs reapplying, there is a definite dryness.

I still really love these balms as a product and I definitely don't regret buying them, but I am slightly disappointed that the formula still doesn't quite work for me. If you're lucky enough to not suffer from super dry lips in winter, I recommend you grab as many of these as you can!

These balms are currently in a 3 for 2 deal on the Boots website, and are £7.99 each.

Have you tried any of the Revlon Colorburst Lacquer balms? What did you think?

  1. Oooh these look lovely, I think Whimsical is my favourite - blue-toned pinks are my weakness haha :)
My lips do get pretty dry in Winter unfortunately so I think I'll wait for these a few months.
    Lovely review and swatches!
