Superdrug Haul - featuring Makeup Revolution, Barry M and Maybelline!

I've been keeping my eyes peeled and waiting for my local Superdrug to bring out their Makeup Revolution stands, so I was pretty excited when I popped in last week and spotted some of newer I ♥ Makeup palettes and lipsticks. Obviously, I couldn't just walk out without having a quick look at the Barry M stands as well...

 

I've liked the look of the Aquarium polishes for ages but hadn't thought to buy any. Mermaid and Pacific jumped out at me straight away, I'm such a sucker for blue polishes. Pacific has a gorgeous metallic sheen to it, and Mermaid contains shiny gold, green and blue particles. I can't wait to try it out as a top coat for some of my other polishes!

I also spotted some of the new Maybelline Baby Lips Electro shades. I went for Strike a Rose which adds a bright pink tint to my lips, and smells like sour skittles. I haven't tried on for long enough to see how moisturising it is, but it definitely feels comfortable on my lips.

After seeing some reviews of Colour Overdose from I ♥ Makeup on various blogs, I knew I was going to have to add it to my collection at some point! It's a really vibrant coral-red, and I love it! I wasn't sure it would suit me at first but now I'm head over heels for it. Just make sure your lips are well hydrated beforehand though, these lipsticks cling to any dry patches!

I also couldn't resist picking up the I ♥ Makeup I am in Love palette, I think these are a really clever idea. You've got six eyeshadows, 2 mattes and 4 shimmers, and a lipstick all in a nifty little palette with a mirror.

The top row of shadows are lighter pinks, the darker shimmery pink is just beautiful.

And here we have the bottom row, the darker shadow has little bits of purpley glitter in it but I couldn't catch it very well. I really like that matte pink as well, it's got much more pigmentation to it than some of the mattes in Makeup Revolution's other palettes.

Unfortunately, the lipstick lets the palette down a little bit. It's a very pale pink and it really washes me out so I probably won't be using it. If it had just been a little bit darker it would have been perfect!

Now that I know Makeup Revolution have a stand in my local Superdrug I'll definitely be popping in more often!

July Favourites

 July has whizzed by and I'm starting to get very nervous about the first part of my degree with the OU! My study texts have arrived and everything seems to be falling into place, scary! Having said that, I've had some great products to play around with this month. 

I've been absolutely loving I ♥ Makeup this month, the Death by Chocolate palette has been gracing my eyelids nearly every day with it's lovely shimmery neutrals! I can't get enough of it. I've also been really enjoying playing around with my Lip Geek lipsticks, Cherry Bomb is still my favourite shade out of the three I own, but I might end up looking to expand my collection soon!

July was also the month that I discovered Memebox! I've already reviewed two of their boxes, and I've got plenty more on the way. This Aloe Vera gel from the Aloe Vera Superbox has been a life saver this month. The UK has had some seriously hot weather and being someone who doesn't deal with the heat well, I've loved being able to put this in the fridge and then smother myself with it!

I've also finally managed to get hold of some of the summer Barry M Gelly shades and I am loving Kiwi and Damson! They look great together or on their own, and are the usual quality you would expect from Barry M. You can find them at your nearest Boots or Superdrug, I was lucky enough to nab these in a 3 for 2 deal, bargain!

First Impressions: I ♥ Makeup Death By Chocolate Palette

I am so pleased I have this palette, it came out before I got paid and when I went to buy all of my other Makeup Revolution goodies, it had sold out! Luckily it came back into stock not long after that so I put in a super quick order and now its here!

How beautiful is that packaging? I just love the feel of this palette, it has a lovely weight to it and the outer casing is just so unusual! I've read on other blogs that they couldn't detect any chocolatey scent from this palette, but I definitely can. It's a little bit synthetic but still quite a unique touch!

And there they are, another lovely palette full of shimmery neutrals! I'm so easily pleased.

 This is the top row. Don't Let Go and Consume Me are obviously my faves, but I'm in love with how jet black All is Lost is. White Light is basically the same shade as my skin, but I probably won't use it anyway.

The second row is where we really get going. There's a couple of mattes in there, but just look at the shimmer on Fool's Gold. It's beautiful. The mattes are a bit better than in the Salvation palettes, but I'd still probably skip them.

This is the bottom row and I want these shades on my eyelids right now. They're all gorgeous and really fit with the chocolatey theme of the palette. I honestly couldn't pick a favourite shade, I love them all.

First impressions: Makeup Revolution's Run Boy Run Palette

I'm a bit late to jump on the bandwagon with this one, but Makeup Revolution managed to bring out all of their lovely new palettes and lipsticks when I was skint and desperately waiting for payday! Obviously I've since been paid, so I put in a couple of orders and I'm going to be taking you through my first impressions of the things I bought!

If you've been reading this blog a while, you'll know I love a shimmery eye, so I couldn't resist the new eyeshadow palettes. Run Boy Run particularly caught my eye with its gorgeous selection of matte nudes and shimmers. The palette itself arives in a cardboard box with the name emblazoned on the front, and a photograph of the shadows on the back. The actual palette is a shiny black plastic which I expected to feel cheap, but it actually feels really sturdy and clips shut in a really satisfying way.

The shadows are beautiful. I think that some of them will probably be more wearable than others, but apart from the super dark ones, I will be wearing these to work as much as possible! 

Starting from the top row, these are all so wearable. Trying to Catch You is super pale, it'd probably work really well as a higlighter or as a base shade though. I'm loving Sun Will Be Guding You, Day is a Prophecy and Another Day. These are exactly the kind of shades I love to wear during the day.

Middle row, and I love all of these too! I'm annoyed at myself for not capturing You Will Be My Boy very well, as it has a gorgeous red glitter to it. Break Out From Society is a fab colour, I'm not sure how I'm going to wear it, but I just love how pigmented it is!

And finally the bottom row of matte shadows. I'm going to be honest, I probably won't use these. They're all very pale, and I'm all about the gorgeous shimmers. They might be good for bases, or highlighters, but I don't tend to bother with those most of the time anyway.

Even with the matte shades being a bit of a disappointment, this is still a beautiful palette. You can find it here for £6.

MUA Starry Night Palette

And relaaax. After getting all of those beauty box posts out of the way, who's up for a quick peek at some pretty eyeshadow?

I recently spotted this palette whilst popping into Superdrug and couldn't resist adding it to my basket. MUA palettes are always such good value for money, and I've wanted this one for ages. Seeing it in person, I knew I would absolutely have to have it, the colours are just beautiful and it always seems to be sold out on the website.

The Starry Night palette mainly contains silvery blues and greys, but there are also a couple of dusky lilacs and a deep black. I really like wearing shimmery shadows so this palette is pretty much ideal for me!

Here I've swatched the top row. This has the darker shades which probably won't get much use, but that blue and lilac are gorgeous! I know blue eyeshadow can be seen as a bit 80's, but applied lightly this could be a winner.

This is the bottom row and it's definitely my favourite out of the two. These softer colours will be easier for me to wear during the day, and I'm particularly loving the purples.

Make Up Revolution Haul

Make Up Revolution is a new brand which has been all over some of my favourite blogs recently, so I couldn't resist seeing what all the fuss was about! 

First on my list, was always going to be the Iconic 3 palette. I think we can all guess which well known brand this palette is duping, but I can afford this £4 price tag a lot easier than the £37 for the original! I can't do a comparison on how the shades match up to the original, but what I do know is that these shades are gorgeous. I love a shimmery eyeshadow, and this palette is packed with them, as well as some lovely matte shades. I've swatched them below for your viewing pleasure, and so that I could get a feel for the texture of the shadows. I've had to number the lighter shades as they were almost invisible on my pale skin, but I'm in love nonetheless. This is a gorgeous palette, and I've already used it to create a couple of looks for work and going out in the evening, it's really very versatile.

I also picked up two baked blushers. For £2.50 each, you get a fantastic pop of colour with a hint of shimmer. These will probably be going with me on holiday to Corfu next month, as I think they'd look great with slightly tanned (if I'm lucky) holiday skin! I picked up Loved Me the Best and All I Think About is You. Loved Me the Best is more of a peachy red which is a colour I've really been enjoying this spring. It seems to really suit my skintone. All I Think About is You is more candy pink, but with some peach undertones thrown in. I'm in love with both of them! 

I was intrigued by the Amazing Care Lipsticks, the layer of Argan oil surrounding the inner layer of colour to provide hydration sounds like my ideal product! I went for Love Pink as on the website it looks like quite a natural pink colour, but in person it's quite bright! I was interested to see how these applied, and I did get in a little bit of a mess on my first go as the colour sort of smudged onto the outer layer, but once I'd got the hang of it, it was quite easy. These are incredibly comfortable to wear, they don't feel sticky or gloopy like a gloss, and they don't really feel like a lipstick either. I'd definitely recommend!

Finally, I couldn't leave the site without picking up a nail polish, especially at only £1 each. I picked a lovely dusky pink, called Never Enough. The formula seems fairly standard, I did find that the polish seemed to take quite a long time to dry, but a quick drying top coat would fix that. I applied two coats as I would normally. 

I am super impressed by Make Up Revolution. I've picked up some absolute bargain products which aren't lacking in quality at all, and I can't wait to see where this brand is going to go! I can definitely see myself going back for the other Iconic palettes, and the baked blushes are amazing.

February Favourites

I can't believe how fast February has gone! I'm really enjoying the first signs of spring though, we're starting to have a few more sunny days here in the UK and flowers are starting to pop up! And it's my birthday in March so obviously this is my favourite month ;)

 

 

 

 

First up is this gorgeous hair oil from the February Birchbox. I really wasn't expecting to like this as I've never used a hair oil before, but I've just been applying a small amount of this to my hair when I get out of the shower and it has made a massive difference! My hair is now silky smooth and fantastic to style as well. A full size bottle of this will set you back £16, and it's available here.

I've also fallen completely head over heels with the new Barry M Silk collection! They just scream spring to me, and I am 100% in the mood to start digging out some pastels. These are £3.99 each, and are available at Boots and Superdrug. I've got full review of these bad boys here.

I've been loving this gentle cleansing milk from La Claree. This came with the February Love Me Beauty box, and initially I was a bit sceptical. However, after using it for a few weeks, I've had my mind changed! This removes make up and grime really well (apart from mascara) and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and smooth. I've not had any breakouts since using this, and my skin seems to just drink it up! What more could you ask for? This retails for about £19 for a 150ml bottle, and is available here.

Next up and also from the February Love Me Beauty box is this dry conditioner from Percy & Reed. This is another product that I was initially unsure about, as haircare isn't really something I tend to go for! I'm normally just a shampoo and conditioner kind of girl. But this is just so easy to use, I've just been spraying a small amount on my hairbrush in the morning and it just adds a gorgeous shine to my hair on days when it's looking a bit dull. You can get this here for £12.

Pretty much every day since I bought it, I've been wearing Katy Perry's Killer Queen fragrance. I absolutely love it. I already did a quick review of it earlier this month which you can find here. It's such a gorgeous perfume, and the bottle is super awesome too! You can get this from Boots and Superdrug, and the 100ml bottle costs around £30.

Finally, the Garden of Eden palette from Sleek. I knew as soon as I saw this palette that I'd absolutely have to get my hands on it! I love the range of gorgeous earthy colours, the browns and pinks are perfect, and the greens are simply stunning. You can see my full review of it here. Phew! Quite a few favourites this month! I'm so pleased that I'm getting introduced to products that I wouldn't normally choose for myself through being subscribed to beauty boxes, and those products are becoming firm favourites.
