Glossybox - April and May 2014

11 June 2014

I seriously have a beauty box problem. I had an email from Glossybox a couple of days ago offering the coveted May box along with a free box if I subscribed for three months. So here I am, I've been suckered back in to Glossybox for the next 3 months!

The free box turned out to be the April box which not many people were impressed by, and I can see why. The box looks empty when you open it, and the products inside really aren't all that impressive. The Monu massage oil will probably come in handy, as I will do anything for a back rub and the ginger scent is quite nice.

I'm pretty disappointed by the MeMeMe highlighter. I'm not really into them as a brand, I tried a tint from them before and really didn't like it, so this will be going straight in the up for grabs album!

Dry shampoos aren't really my thing either, so this will probably also end up being given away, along with this lip brush from Emite. I already have plenty of brushes so this isn't something that I really need.

The Unica cream is something that I am willing to try, but it's such a small sample I'm not sure I'll get much of an idea of how good the cream is for my skin.

Now that the most disappointing bit is over, onto the May box. This box is a collaboration with Superdrug as it's their 50th birthday this year. I've seen a lot of really good boxes on various blogs so I was quite excited to see what I would get in mine!

To get the bad stuff out of the way, the bronzer. Not my kind of thing at all. I tend to stick with just being pale all year round as I just can't be bothered with fake tan, so this will be given away.

I'm also less than impressed with this nail candy thing. Nail art is something that I've just never managed to get my head around, but I know plenty of people who do it and are actually good at it so I'm sure I'll be able to fling this in their direction!

Another set of false eyelashes for my collection that will sadly never get used. I've just never managed to get the hang of these but hopefully someone I know will be able to give them a good home.

Finally, something I can actually keep! I love Simple and I hadn't realised that this was a product that Glossybox were including in the May boxes, so this was a really good surprise! I can't wait to try it out.

We also received a full size lipstick from B. I got the shade Petal, and it's a lovely soft pink and promises to be moisturising as well so it sounds perfect for me.

There were also two bonuses in the box in the form of a sample of Ghost's fragrance and a sachet of Garnier's body oil. The perfume smells really nice, it's got some lovely fruity tones to it which I love so I'll be keeping this! I've also heard a lot of good things about this body oil and it's a really decent sized sachet so I'm pretty pleased with it.

Overall, I feel like I haven't received amazing boxes from Glossybox. These definitely haven't convinced me to carry on with my subscription after my 3 month-stint ends, but I'm quite excited to see what the June and July boxes hold!

Glossybox November 2013

17 November 2013

After last months disappointing box, I've been rooting for Glossybox to pull it together for November! I received my box on Tuesday, and here are my thoughts!

Connock London Kukui Eau de Parfum
A lot of people complain about the perfume samples received in beauty boxes, and I have to say, I do think its a bit of a swizz. But on the other hand, trying out new perfumes isn't something I do an awful lot, and it's quite nice to get the chance to experiment. This perfume is a little too floral for me. I tend to prefer fruity scents, so this will probably not get used! (I actually gave this away to a friend before I could photograph it!)

Elegant Touch Nail Polish Remover Pads
These don't really need any explanation. I'm looking forward to trying them out though, as I normally use a cheap remover and cotton wool, and tend to get in a right mess. This seems like a much quicker and easier solution. This is also quite affordable, at £2 per pot.

Vichy Idealia Life Serum
So, there's been a lot of hype surrounding this product. I don't entirely get it, but it's apparently a super awesome skin moisturiser that makes you look a zillion years younger. I might be exaggerating slightly. I'm sort of intrigued by this because I want to see if it is worth the hype, but I honestly have to say that I'm pretty sceptical. A lot of moisturisers out there boast about having super magical skin powers, and I don't seem to see the difference :\ I'll have to keep you posted! I received two samples of the Life Serum and a sample of the Smoothing and Illuminating cream.

Emite Make Up Micronized Eyeshadow
Yay! Make up in a Glossybox! This is a very pale shimmery pink eyeshadow, and is a full size product. According to Glossybox, this retails for £16.80. Which strikes me as INSANE. It's a tiny eyeshadow! But if you read the description, it soon becomes obvious why this product is ridiculously expensive. "Emite Micronized Eye Shadow is completely free from oil, nickel, parabens and perfume. The pigment is micronized to facilitate application and to create an even and lasting result". I don't know what micronizing is, but it sounds pricey. These shadows are also apparently ideal for people with sensitive eyes, so thats a bonus. Obviously, this isn't the kind of product that I would buy all the time, but I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Yves Rocher France Hand Cream

Finally, my favourite item from the box! I absolutely love this hand cream. The scent is cocoa and raspberry, and it is divine. It smells so good, I really want to eat it. Not only does it smell fantastic, but it sinks into your hands really easily, and leaves them so soft! This is definitely going to become a staple in my handbag for winter, as I do tend to suffer from dry skin. Plus, this is a full size product.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my Glossybox this month. I think they've done well to include a couple of expensive items (Vichy and Emite) and rounded it off with useful, cheap items (Elegant Touch and Yves Rocher). Reading the Glossy magazine has been pretty interesting too, as I see that Glossybox are releasing a limited edition Christmas box, which will be available from November 20th (PAYDAY!) so I will definitely be having a good look at that!

What do you think of this month's box? Has Glossybox upped it's game from last month?

July and August 2013 Glossyboxes

22 August 2013

So I mentioned the other day that I'd had a Glossybox subscription before the wedding, and then had to cancel it because of saving for wedding favours and shoes and stuff. Well, a few days ago I received an email from them offering me the July and August boxes for the bargain price of £15, with £2.95 postage.

Needless to say, I took them up on the offer, and this is all of the stuff I received.

July Seaside Splash Box

So the items I received in this box are: Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist, Coola Mineral Face SPF 20 Moisturiser, Essie Sleek Sticks, Spray Misty For Me Facial Spritz, and two Pout Paints.

Thoughts

The texture mist hair spray stuff is something I am definitely interested to try out, and the moisturiser looks promising as well.

I'm going to have a go with the sleek sticks, but I don't think my nails are really long enough so I can see myself just getting annoyed with them.

The Pout Paints are intriguing, I'm not sure that they'd be something I'll use every day though. Apparently you can mix them together to create different shades, which I'm quite eager to experiment with!

The face spray has already caused some hilarity after I sprayed it in the husband's face to see what he thought, he wasn't really impressed.

Overall, there are some useful things in here, I'll have some fun trying them out!

August Highflyers Box

This box contained: Emite Make up Eyelash Curlers, Urban Veda Radiance Day Cream, Jelly Pong Pong 2 in 1 Shadow/Liner, Tresemme Keratin Smooth Concentrated Treatment Shot, and Oceane Make up Remover Pen.

Thoughts

I already have a pair of eyelash curlers and don't really tend to use them, but I'll certainly give these a go.

I have used a bit of the Radiance Day Cream this morning and it smells fantastic (although it's quite a strong scent, so it might not be to everyone's tastes), soaked into my skin really quickly, and left it feeling really soft. A good start!

I've been wanting to try Jelly Pong Pong make up for a while, but they always seem to be sold out, or slightly out of my price range, so I'm happy to have received this liner to try out. I received the liner in black, so I might try to practice my eye lining skills!

The make up remover pen will come in handy in the mornings when I slip with the mascara brush, but other than that I probably won't use it much.

I am interested in the Tresemme hair shot, I used this last night when I got back from swimming, and its left my hair feeling really smooth and soft!

This is just a quick round up of my thoughts, I will have some more individual reviews in a couple of days or so once I've properly used some of the products!

Thanks for reading :) xxx
