Wedding Details #1

I've seen a few people blogging about upcoming weddings which is super exciting! I got married in May this year and I've decided to share some of the tips and sellers, and of course, photos from our wedding. I've also been a bit of a bad blogger recently and haven't done any new Librarian Work Wear posts! The weather has been really crappy and it's so dark all the time! I'll try and sort myself out for next week, I promise!

The first item on my agenda is FLOWERS. I really wanted blue Hydrangeas for my wedding flowers, I think they're just stunning. Unfortunately, in May in the UK, this wasn't likely to be possible without it being super expensive. So, I hopped onto Etsy (my wedding saviour) to see what I could find in the way of paper flowers. There, I stumbled upon The Little Red Button. Stacy, the owner, talked me through all of the choices and price options available, and even sent me swatches of the card used in the making of my bouquet and boutonnieres. They really are so unusual, and as I chose not to throw my bouquet at the end of the day (because I didn't want to concuss anyone), I now have a lovely keepsake. The groomsmen all kept their boutonnieres as well. I would 100% recommend The Little Red Button to any future brides looking for something a little bit different!

We also had a centrepiece for the table where we had the ceremony and signed the register. This was provided by a florist who shall remain nameless, as I was pretty annoyed at their service. They took a really long time to send us quotes and let us know what was going on, and I really think that I should have given up on them and arranged something with a different florist. But on the day, the flowers arrived, and they were beautiful. I just could have done without the added stress of having to constantly phone the florists to check that everything was good to go!

Two very different wedding experiences related to flowers there! If I was planning a wedding now, I don't think I would be as reluctant to kick up a fuss if a supplier wasn't performing to the standards I expected.

Face of the Day #8

This is definitely more of an evening look, but I really wanted to try out my new Be a Bombshell eyeliner and HD Brows blusher from September's Glossybox! I also used the green shade from the MUA Smokin Palette.

I started by applying the eyeliner. This stuff is pretty fantastic. It dries super quickly, meaning that you have less chance of smudging it everywhere through impatience/rushing. It's also really easy to apply, and doesn't apply in a smeary way. I've tried felt eyeliners before that just haven't had the pigment and ink to really impress me, but this is almost like using a liquid liner.

I'm also pretty excited to show off the HD Brows blusher. This shade is just absolutely gorgeous, it applies really nicely with the little pad provided, and blends into the skin really well.

This is not a look I would wear to work (bit too eyeliner heavy for that) but I think it works great for an evening out!

Weekly Book Round Up #9

 

I finally got around to giving J.K. Rowlings first non-Harry Potter book a whirl this week. I was surprised at how depressing this book is. I expected that it would more adult, but I was really quite shocked at how bleak it is in places. The book is centred around the village of Pagford, and the ongoing debates among the council. It follows a lot of characters, and at first I found it quite confusing trying to keep up with who was who. However, after a while I managed to keep up with the characters and I was actually really impressed with the seamless way J.K. Rowling managed to transfer the reader from one individuals story to another. I did find that the majority of the characters were horrible. There were really only one or two overall that I felt any kind of sympathy towards. I'm still quite interested to read the novel she wrote under a pseudonym, I just hope its not quite as depressing as this!

Kate Emerson is an author that I'm always excited to hear about. Her 'Secrets of the Tudor Court' series follows the lives of lesser known individuals that were living on the outskirts of the court. She combines historical research with fiction to create interesting and unique stories. This one follows the life of Audrey Malte, a girl who was brought up by the kings tailor, and was possibly a child born out of wedlock to Henry VIII. I always find these kinds of stories intriguing, as I'm really interested in Tudor history. I do find that Kate Emerson's writing can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, and her female characters can be a bit drippy at times, but this was still an enjoyable read.
