You Beauty Discovery Box - August 2014

Another month, another You Beauty Discovery box! I was pretty excited to see the options for this month's box and it didn't disappoint!

The box came jam-packed with goodies, there were lots of extra little samples this month as well as the items I picked out from the shortlist.

The first item I picked was this cute little lipbalm from Rose and Co. I love anything with a cherry scent so I knew I would want this in my box! The balm itself doesn't have an overpoweringly cherry scent, it's more a hint than anything else. There isn't a lot of colour to the balm either.

I also picked out this Louise Galvin Sacred Locks Masque. I had a go with this yesterday and even though I didn't leave it in for the full 10 minutes they recommend, it has made my hair so shiny and soft! This is definitely going to become a weekly treat for my hair!

We also received two Jimmy Choo perfume samples, one for her and one for him. I didn't like either of them so they went straight in the bin unfortunately.

I tried out this Face D 3-Luronics serum this morning and it's probably the weirdest thing I've ever put on my face! It sinks in ever so quickly, you hardly have to rub it in at all, but it leaves a sort of rubbery layer on your skin. I found that it was quite difficult to layer my make up over as well. Not so keen on this really!

We also received a four-sided nail file. I don't tend to file my nails at all so this might be the incentive I need to start taking better care of them!

Another great value box for the £6.95 a month price tag! I can't wait to see what's on next month's shortlist.

You Beauty Discovery Box - July

I know I say this every month, but I just love You Beauty! I'm always excited to see what will be on the menu, and I've never been disappointed yet. This month's theme was summer holidays and travelling, so lets see what I picked!

I can't believe how much was crammed into this tiny box! The extra samples were quite big this month, as well as fitting in a full-size mascara and two good sized bottles, I was chuffed when I opened this box up!

I chose the shampoo and conditioner duo from L'occitane as they're a brand I've been itching to try but have never gotten around to doing so. These are meant to be really good for repairing your hair, and contain lots of natural ingredients. They both smell quite herby!

I've heard a lot about this mascara and it's been on my wishlist for a while now, so I knew that I would have to get this in my box! I love the packaging and the cute name, I'm just curious to see whether it will live up to the hype!

 

A really good selection of samples this month, I know a lot of people were a bit confused by the inclusion of a mens shaving product from Dove, but its a good sized sample and I'm sure the husband will enjoy using it! I'm not a massive fan of the Agent Provocateur fragrance, its a little bit too heavy for me. The Egyptian Magic skin cream is quite interesting, I've not heard of it before. It's quite a small sachet but I'll try it out on my dry elbows to see if it helps!

Overall, impressive! £6.95 a month for this box is such a bargain, and its always a joy to receive. I love that its small enough to fit through my letterbox and that you get such a fantastic range of products to choose from consistently.

Beauty Box Buys #3

Another month, another round up of picks from beauty boxes! There have been a couple of fantastic boxes this month so I've found it quite hard to keep my selection down to just two products per box.

You Beauty Discovery 

 

This was a great box. The lip gloss was a bit of a random choice for me but it really paid off. I love the creamy texture of the gloss and the sealing balm works amazingly well. You can find it here for £9.99.
 

I also loved this face wash from Urban Veda, I think I might actually buy a full size bottle of this as it left my skin feeling and looking incredibly refreshed and clean. It's available here for £7.99.

Birchbox 

 


This was another tricky box to pick from! I genuinely loved everything I received, but the Yves Rocher lipstick was a stand out product. Initially I thought I wouldn't like it because of the colour, but I actually love it. It's hydrating and looks lovely. You can get it here for £9.90.

My second choice from Birchbox is this Naobay body lotion. It has a lovely citrusy scent which is perfect for summer, and it feels gorgeous on my skin. You can find it here for £12.95.

Glossybox  

I was less impressed with this month's Glossybox, but the two products I decided to keep have been well worth it. In particular, this Nail Girls base/top coat is brilliant. I own several top coats and they only last a day or so before my polish starts to peel or chip. The top coat has been on my nails for 3 days now and I have minimal chipping. I'm in love with it. I haven't been able to find a link for this online but I think the card that came with the Glossybox said this retails for around £13.50.

This eyeshadow brush from Teeez cosmetics is great too. I've been having a lot of fun playing around with it and trying different looks, unfortunately I'm having trouble finding a link to buy this as well, and I can't remember the price listed for it. I think it was listed in euros.

Love Me Beauty 

Love Me Beauty had a great box this month, full of lots of make up! I especially loved the Beauty UK mascara, it adds great definition and length to my lashes all for the bargain price of £2.99! Get it here.

I was also really impressed with the ModelCo lipstick. I wasn't expecting to like the colour, but I actually felt like it really suited me, and the formula was very nice too. I'd be really interested to try out the other shades shown for this lipstick on the website, particularly Peony. You can find them here for £12 each.

You Beauty Discovery Box - June 2014

You Beauty have outdone themselves again this month with another fab menu, with the theme being an introduction to summer. Here's what I picked!

I decided (after much deliberation) to go for the Urban Veda Daily Purifying Facial Wash and the L'oreal Paris Infallible 24 Hour Lip Colour in Timeless Rose. We also received a face mask from Montagne Jeunesse and a wash cloth.

I love seeing Urban Veda in beauty boxes, it's become one of my favourite brands! I've tried creams and face washes from them before and I'm always impressed. This is a face wash that I haven't tried before, but it feels like it will be a lovely product to use over the summer. It has a very refreshing scent, sort of minty.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this lip gloss but I just decided to give it a go. It's a double ended product, with gloss at one end and a sealing balm at the other. Whether the balm really does work for 24 hours, I dont know, but it certainly held up very well whilst eating and drinking and it's a gorgeous colour. The gloss feels very luxurious as well, not sticky or tacky.

The freebies! Having just gotten into face masks I was quite excited to see that we'd be getting one from Montagne Jeunesse. They're a brand I've heard a lot about but never tried, so I'm excited to try this out! The wash cloth has come in really handy, as I've been suffering rather a lot with hayfever at the moment so having a nice cloth to cool my itchy eyes has been a lifesaver!

I just can't get over how consistently good these boxes are. The range of products to choose from is always so wide, with quality brands to pick. For £6.95 a month, you really can't go wrong!

Beauty Box Buys #2

 May was another great month for beauty boxes! Birchbox in particular did a fantastic job with their Harper's Bazaar collab, and You Beauty's theme of the CEW awards resulted in a great selection of products too. Here are my favourite products from each of the boxes I received this month.

Love Me Beauty    

I wasn't overwhelmed by the selection from Love Me Beauty this month, however there were a couple of items that I liked. The Raw Skincare lip balm in 'Rescue Me' has been a life saver at times this month. I suffer from dry lips and this balm has kept them moisturised and soft. It's also a total bargain at £2.98, and you can find it here. We also received these cute notebooks from Go Stationery. I am a bit of a stationery geek so I was pretty excited to get these in my box! The patterns are really cute and I will definitely get plenty of use out of these at work. Having a notebook handy is always a plus! You can find these cute notebooks in sets of three here for £5.

You Beauty Discovery  

This month I've totally fallen in love with the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment that I was lucky enough to get my hands on when the menu went live! The mask is applied quite sparingly, and dries to be quite solid. I could really see it working on my pores and after rinsing it off my skin felt and looked incredibly clear and refreshed. It's an expensive one, but if you're feeling flush I really would recommend it! You can find it here for £39.99.

Birchbox 
 

Birchbox managed to entice me back into subscribing by producing (in my opinion) thier best box to date. It's been incredibly hard to pick just two favourites from the box, but I've just about managed it! Firstly, Benefit's 'They're Real!' mascara. This mascara really is amazing. It's not a product that's new to me, it's just a fantastic mascara and if you don't have or haven't tried it yet, get it! It's available here for £19.50. 

We also received a sample of the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I was intrigued to try this out after hearing so many bloggers rave about it, and it's definitely worth the hype. My skin feels so soft and clean after using this, it's definitely better than any other cleanser I've tried! You can find it here for £14.75.

You Beauty Discovery Box - May 2014

I've come to really enjoy You Beauty. I love how they have a theme every month, and I love waiting excitedly for the new menu to come out, and planning which two items I'm going to choose for my box! This month's theme is the UK CEW Beauty Awards, and the shortlist had plenty of winners to choose from.

First on my list was one of the two Glamglow products that were available on the menu. I've heard a lot of people raving about Glamglow, so I decided that I had to give the Supermud Clearing Treatment a go. I received a 10mg tube which I've worked out (with terrible maths skills so this is only an approximate total!) is worth about £13. I think I'll be able to get quite a few uses out of this, I'm really excited to try it out! 

I really struggled with my second item, I just couldn't choose! I eventually settled on these Burt's Bees face wipes. I've tried Burt's Bees products before and absolutely loved them, especially their lip balms, so I figured I'd try these out. They're not the most expensive item that I could have picked, but I'd rather have things I'll actually use in my box which is the beauty of this service! I received 10 face wipes, which works out as being worth around £1.99. These really do have quite a strong tea scent, but I find it quite refreshing! 

Sample wise, we received a bag of Lizi's granola which found it's way into the husband's tummy before I could photograph it! Granola is not my kind of thing, I'm more of a toast person in the mornings, but it was quite a good sized bag and it seemed to fill Luke up when he got home from work. We also received a sample of Caudalie's Divine Leg Tint. I'm not really sure about this as I usually tend to steer clear of anything that even hints at being fake tan, but it promises to give a lovely glow to post-holiday legs, so I might bust this out after Corfu. The final sample is Charles Worthington's Moisture Seal Hair Healer Leave-In Conditioner. I think this has the potential to be another good post-Corfu treatment, especially after having sea salt and lots of sun on it, my hair might well be in need of a pamper! 

All in all, another great box from You Beauty. Next month's theme is set to be holiday related which is a bit of a shame as I'm off to Corfu on Friday! I'm sure there will be some goodies that will take my fancy though.

Beauty Box Buys #1

The idea for this post was suggested to me by one of my friends (Thanks Kat!) via the blogs Facebook page, and I instantly loved it! This is going to be a new feature once a month, in which I will mention the items I have received in beauty boxes that I would most recommend! 

Birchbox

This month's Birchbox was a good one. The standout item for me was the TheBalm blush palette, How 'bout Them Apples? I loved it so much I bought the full size palette with my Birchbox points! The palette is available from TheBalm's website, but it'll have to be shipped from the US. A better bet is Cloud10Beauty, they have the palette listed for £24.50 which is £1.50 cheaper than in the Birchbox shop, and you won't be running the risk of customs fees.

This month's Birchbox also featured the Yes to...Cucumbers face wipes. These are great at removing make up and super refreshing. I know face wipes aren't everyone's thing, but I find them really helpful for removing mascara and clearing off any bits of make up I've missed with a cleanser. You can find the full-size packs of these here for £3.74.

Love Me Beauty    

Love Me Beauty had some great products this month, but my absolute favourite was this shampoo from Neal and Wolf. It smells amazing, and my hair feels so soft after using it! It is a bit pricey for an everyday shampoo, so I'm not sure if it's something I'll be repurchasing, but I'd definitely recommend it! Especially if flyaway hair is a problem you suffer with. My hair is quite fine so it does occasionally get quite irritating, but since using this I've not had any problems. It's available here for £11.50 for 250ml.

You've all heard me raving about the Betty Hula Secret Wonder Oil this month. I've mainly been using it for stretchmarks, but this can also be used for scarring, dry/sensitive and aging skin, combination skin, oily skin and for soothing sun burn. It is also recommended for eye wrinkles. The travel size rollerball is £6.25 and is available here along with Betty's other lovely goodies!

You Beauty Discovery   

This month's You Beauty box was fantastic. I loved both of the products I received, but my favourite was the Essential Care Creamy Coconut Cleanser. I picked this for my box on a bit of a whim, but I really love it. It removes all of my make up incredibly easily, and even removes mascara to a point. My skin feels clean and refreshed after I've used it, and I just think it's a great product! You can get it here for £14.50 (150ml) or £6 (30ml).

I also love the Clayspray from this month's box. This is probably going to be slightly out of budget for most people, but if you're feeling flush then I'd recommend giving it a try. These are literally cans that contain a clay mask. These dry to quite a solid mask and I found that it could be quite tricky to remove, but your skin feels amazing afterwards, so definitely worth the hassle. Don't get it in your hair though, I got a couple of stray strands in by accident and spent ages trying to get it out! Feelunique have the smaller 30ml sizes which might be better if you just want to get a feel for the product, which you can find here for £15, or you can get the larger 125ml cans here for £44.50 each. Feelunique also offer sets of clayspray masks with a spring water spray which is what Clayspray recommends you prep your skin with before applying the mask. I personally don't think it would make that much difference, but if you're interested, you can find those here for £35 each.

You Beauty Discovery Box - April 2014

Well, I am glad I got up early for this menu! This is only my second box from You Beauty, but I thought a few of the products seemed to sell out incredibly quickly this month. This months box promised a natural and organic theme, and it definitely delivered!

As soon as I saw the menu the day before it went live, I knew I was going to go for one of the Claysprays. I didn't like the sound of the glow one, so I decided to give the brightening white clay with ginseng a go. Both of these had sold out by about 10.30 on the day the menu went live, which is just crazy! At 30ml, this sample is worth around £10, which has already paid for the box. Watch this space for a review, I can't wait to give this a go!

The other item I picked was the Essential Care Creamy Coconut Cleanser. I had just run out of cleanser when I saw the menu for this month, and I really liked the sound of this, so in my box it went! I thought that this would smell quite strongly of coconuts, but it actually smells more of olives than anything else. I've used it a couple of times and it removes make up and mascara really well. This retails for £6.

This month's freebies included a 9bar which is a delicious mix of fruit and seeds, and a sample from the Organic Pharmacy.  I've already used this up, and I was pretty impressed. The cream had quite a thick consistency which meant I only had to use a tiny bit at a time, so I managed to get four uses out of this sachet. The cream did have quite an odd smell, sort of fruity but also quite herby, which wouldn't be for everyone. A full size pot of this will set you back around £40, so I'm pleased that I got the chance to try it out!
