Battle of the Moisturisers/Primers

Since Glossybox has sent me a few moisturisers recently, I've decided to stop being lazy and get my act together skincare-wise.

I've been rotating these three and have decided to share my thoughts on them with you lovely people!

These are the three products I've been testing! Monu's Illuminating Primer, Urban Veda's Radiance Day Cream, and Harmony Moisturising Smoothie Serum.

 

First up, is Monu's Illuminating Primer. I haven't been getting on very well with this. It is really quite thick, and I don't find that it soaks into my skin very well at all. After using it for a few days, I started to break out in spots and I also found that it didn't do a great job of holding my make up in place during the day. I was quite surprised to not get on with this, as I've tried Monu's products before (from a previous Glossybox) and really enjoyed using them! But this has left me quite disappointed. As a full size bottle of this is £22, I would advise you to save your pennies!

 

This day cream from Urban Veda is really nice to use. I find that it sinks into my skin really nicely, and leaves it feeling really soft. I'm not sure about the claims of "naturally brightens" and "balances skin tone", but maybe that's something that you would notice if you used it over a longer period of time. Using small samples isn't always the best for those kind of tests! This does have quite a strong flowery scent, which many people might not appreciate, but I actually quite like it! A full size pot of this is £14.99, which isn't too bad, but I'm not sure I've noticed enough "radiance" to splash my cash.

 

Finally, the Harmony Moisturising Smoothie Serum. This also feels really nice on the skin, and soaks in really easily. I like the idea of a pump instead of a squeezy tube, as this means you're less likely to drop the bottle and get face cream everywhere (I know, clumsy). I also really liked the scent of this, I didn't find it to be overbearing at all, just pleasant. A full size bottle of this is £22.50. Unfortunately, this is probably my favourite out of the three, but I just can't justify paying that much for a face cream.

It's hardly the most interesting thing to blog about, but part of what I love about Glossybox is that you try products that normally you'd never get the chance to, due to price, or not hearing about the brand. I'd rather blog about make up, but at least this has encouraged me to have a better skincare regime for a while :)

Glossybox October 2013

The theme for October's Glossybox is Dark Romance. I've been looking forward to this box, hoping for something slightly halloweeny, so here are my thoughts upon first receiving the box!

Vita Liberata Latte Illuminating Skin Finish

This is supposed to be a slightly bronzing body balm. They have provided two sachets, but I'm not entirely sure that this will be enough. Also I'm always naturally a bit wary about bronzing products. I like being pale!

Harmony Moisturising Smoothie Serum

This is a moisturiser that can also be used as a primer. I've just rubbed some onto my hand and it seems to sink into the skin quite nicely, and it's left it really soft. It's got quite a nice scent too, so I can definitely see myself using this.

Monu Illuminating Primer

Another primer! This has a thicker consistency than the Harmony one, and I'm not sure I like the smell as much. It hasn't absorbed as nicely either. I might need to experiment with this one a bit more!

Unica Kiss it Better Cream

This is a cream for sensitive or dry skin. I think I would get some use out of this if I suffered from dry skin, but I don't. Also, it's got quite an unusual smell. Sort of fruity, but with something else added that makes it kind of funky (not in a good way).

MeMeMe Cherub's Blush

The one item in this box that fits with the theme. This sort of product only needs a tiny amount applying, so no doubt this will last for ages, and I've not tried a liquid tint before so I'm quite intrigued by this.

Overall, I'm a bit disappointed. I rely on Glossybox for new make up products that I can review throughout the month, and the October box has sadly fallen short! I will try and use the primers to see what I think, but they're not as fun to review, and I'm also disappointed that the box didn't really live up to the theme. I can see what they've tried to do, providing products to save your skin during the autumn, but make that the theme! Don't try and make it sort of halloweeny and romantic, everyone knows dry skin is anything but. Hopefully November's box will be a bit more fun!
